The call that came in halfway down Bradshaw Road

This is the kind of call that starts a new customer on a round. He isn’t sure which village he lives in, remembers the conservatory late, and still lands on the right Tuesday.

Example call; Clearview Window Cleaning and the caller are made up.

Intro

This call may be recorded. Thank you for calling Clearview Window Cleaning. Please hold for a moment while I connect you.Recorded, and played before she picks up.

Ansela

Clearview Window Cleaning, Ansela speaking. How can I help?

Caller

Hi, yeah, we’ve just moved in and the last fella’s stopped coming. Do you do Harwood? Or it might be Bradshaw, we’re right on the edge.

Ansela

Dave covers both. Can I take your postcode so I put you on the right day?

Caller

BL2 4RT. It’s a three-bed semi. Oh, there’s a conservatory on the back as well.

Ansela

Thanks. A three-bed semi is fifteen pounds every four weeks. The conservatory roof Dave prices when he’s seen it. He’s in your street on Tuesdays. Shall I put you on from next Tuesday?

Caller

Go on then. Does he need to get round the back? The side gate’s locked.

Ansela

He does for the back windows. I’ll put the locked gate on the booking so Dave knows. What name is it?

Caller

Callum Reid. 07700 900318. And how do I pay him, is it cash?

Ansela

Cash on the day or a bank transfer, Dave’s happy with either. You’re on the round from next Tuesday, Callum.

What she does for a window round, and what she won’t

She works from what you tell her: your prices by house type, which streets you do on which day, and how you like to be paid.

  • First cleans, booked on the day you’re already in that street.
  • “How much for a three-bed semi?” answered from your price list.
  • “Can you skip me this time?” from a regular, taken with the address and written up before the next round.
  • Gutters, fascias and conservatory roofs, booked as a look or taken as a message.
  • Won’t promise a day you haven’t given her. She books inside the rounds you set.
  • Won’t take payment. She tells callers how you like to be paid, cash or transfer.
  • Won’t touch your round app. She doesn’t connect to any round app. New customers come to you in the summary to add yourself.

03

What happens when a window cleaner misses a call?

A new customer rings once, usually after moving in or after their old cleaner has stopped coming. They want a price and a day. Nobody waits for a callback on a job that costs a small amount, so they ring the next name on the list or pick up a leaflet.

A window round is made of regular customers on a rota, so every new house you miss is a run of visits you never get. The calls are short and the job is small, which is why they are easy to lose when you are up a pole.

04

What does she say when someone asks for a price?

The price you’ve given her, by house type: a two-bed terrace, a three-bed semi, a detached with a conservatory. She asks the postcode so she can tell whether the street is on your round and which day you are there. If a conservatory roof, gutters or fascias are mentioned, she says you price those once you have seen them.

She also takes the small things that decide a clean: a locked side gate, a dog in the garden, a house that is empty on your day. They go in the notes for you.

05

Can she put a new customer on the right day of the round?

Yes, in the way you describe it. Tell her which areas you do on which day and how often, every four weeks or every eight, and she books the first clean on that day. Bookings go into your Ansela diary. If the postcode isn’t one you cover, she says so and takes the details.

She doesn’t connect to a round app. Each new customer arrives in your emailed summary and you add them yourself. She doesn’t take payment either. She tells callers how you like to be paid, cash or transfer.

06

Is an answering service worth it for a low-priced job?

Fair question. A single clean is small, so look at it against the customer you keep, not the first visit. A regular on your round is worth many cleans. Check 600 minutes a month on the pricing page against how many new-customer calls you get, then decide.

She won’t promise a day outside the rounds you set, and she won’t quote for work you haven’t priced.

Plans start at £99 a month + VAT: see what each plan includes. Paying a per-call service now? See how Ansela compares.

Where the phone usually is while the pole’s up

A small van with a water tank and hose reel in the back, parked in a cul-de-sac of semis, a pole against it
Thursday morning in Bolton. Pole against the van, hose across the drive, the phone in the cab.

We built Ansela because we kept ringing tradespeople who couldn’t pick up, and then booking someone else. She isn’t a call centre. She answers in your name, says what you’ve told her to say, and writes down what the caller wanted.

If she gets a call wrong, forward us the recording.

08

How do you set up Ansela?

You choose a plan before your number goes live.

For window cleaners: keep your current number and divert it to Ansela, or take a new UK business number for your website and cards, or use both.

  • Give her your website or Facebook page. She reads it and comes back with your services and your area for you to check.
  • Give her your prices and your days. House types and prices, and which streets you do on which day. Then try the new-customer call above with her in your browser.
  • Divert your mobile. We give you a UK number. One short code diverts your mobile to it when you don’t pick up. Another turns it off.

Questions window cleaners ask

Can she put new customers on the right day?

Yes. Tell her which areas you do on which day and she books the first clean on that day, or takes the details if the postcode isn’t one you cover.

Regulars ring to say they’ve moved or want to stop.

She takes the name, the address and what’s changed. It’s in your inbox and your email before you go out.

Can she tell callers how I like to be paid?

Yes, cash or bank transfer, in your words. She doesn’t take payment herself.

I keep my round in an app.

She doesn’t connect to it. Each booking comes to you in the summary and you add it to the round yourself.

Do I have to change my number?

No. We give you a UK number and you divert your own to it with a short code (codes by network). Turn the divert off whenever you like.

What is a minute, and can she take two calls at once?

A minute is time she spends on the phone with callers. Starter includes 600 a month, extra minutes are 20p each up to a limit you set, and Starter takes 1 call at a time. A caller who rings while she’s busy can leave a voicemail, which doesn’t use your minutes.

Is there a contract, and what happens after the £1.99 month?

No minimum term. After the first month it carries on at your plan price plus VAT unless you cancel, which you can do from your billing page at any time.

Keep the pole up, she’ll take the new ones.
