An office administrator lifting a folder from a stack on an oak desk in a small mortgage firm
Wednesday, 12:40. Adviser in a meeting, the folders tidy, a call coming in.

Can an AI receptionist answer for a mortgage broker?

Yes. Ansela answers in your firm’s name, takes the enquiry, and books an initial call with the adviser into her own diary. She gives no advice, quotes no rates, and doesn’t say whether anyone would qualify. Your firm’s regulated status and wording stay yours to supply.

The first-time buyer who asked what rate they would get

This is a made-up call. The caller wants a number straight away. She says that’s for the adviser, takes the essentials, and books a time that suits.

Example call; Ashdown Mortgage and Financial Planning and the caller are made up.

Ashdown Mortgage and Financial Planning, Ansela speaking. The adviser is with a client. How can I help?

Caller

Hello, yes, we’ve had an offer accepted on a house, it’s our first, and we’ve been told we need a broker, and I just wanted to know what rate you’d get us. And whether we’d be able to borrow enough, we’ve got about, well, there’s two of us.

Ansela

Congratulations. I can’t give rates or say what you could borrow. The adviser does that on a call. Can I take your name?

Caller

Oh. Right. It’s Maya Collins. Collins with a C.

Ansela

Thanks Maya. And the best number for you?

Caller

Oh seven seven double oh, nine hundred, six two seven. Sorry, six seven two.

Ansela

So that’s 07700 900672. Is it a first home purchase, and has the offer been accepted?

Caller

Yes, accepted on Monday. First time buyers.

Ansela

Thanks. Is there a day or time that suits for the adviser to ring?

Caller

This evening, after six, if possible. We’re both at work.

Ansela

I’ve booked an initial call for 18:15 today on that number.

What she does for a broker or adviser, and what she won’t

She works from the kinds of enquiry you take, your adviser’s diary windows, and any wording you want said about your firm, exactly as you wrote it.

  • New enquiries, name, number, what it is about and when to ring, passed to the adviser.
  • Initial calls, booked on the slots you offer.
  • Messages for existing clients, taken with a name and number.
  • Office questions, where you are, when you’re open and how to send documents.
  • Won’t give advice, rates, or compare products. She doesn’t say whether anyone would qualify or what they could borrow.
  • Won’t make claims you haven’t given her. Your FCA status and permissions are said only in wording you provide, and she doesn’t add risk warnings of her own.
  • Won’t claim her recording is your compliance record. It’s a convenience copy. What you must keep, and how, is for you and your compliance adviser.

03

What does a mortgage broker lose when the phone goes unanswered?

A buyer with an offer accepted, or a homeowner whose fixed rate is ending, usually rings more than one broker and books the first adviser who answers. They want to know when someone will speak to them.

Advisers are often with another client when the call arrives, and the next firm is a click away. They aren’t looking for a long message. A call booked while the buyer is still on the line doesn’t go elsewhere.

04

What does she ask, and what does the adviser get?

Name, number, what the enquiry is about (buying a first home, remortgaging, buy to let, protection), and a good time for a call. She books one of the initial call slots you’ve set and emails you a summary with the recording and transcript.

She doesn’t ask about income, credit history or deposit. Those are for the adviser, in a regulated conversation. If a caller starts giving figures, she says the adviser will want them on the call and carries on with the essentials.

05

Will she give rates, compare products, or say whether someone would qualify?

No. She gives no advice, no rates, no comparison of products and no view on whether anyone would be accepted for a mortgage. If a caller asks, she says the adviser will go through it on the call.

She also doesn’t invent warnings. Any risk wording a regulated firm has to give comes from you, in words you provide. If you want her to say anything about your authorisation, supply the exact wording, and she says that and nothing else.

06

What about the FCA and call recording?

Your firm’s FCA status and permissions are your own. Ansela isn’t authorised and doesn’t speak for you. Her emailed recording and transcript are a convenience for you, not a record she says meets any regulatory record-keeping requirement. Whether and how you keep records is for you and your compliance adviser.

Where the phone usually is when the adviser is with a client

A small mortgage and financial planning office with a pale oak desk and a glass meeting room
Wednesday, 12:35. Adviser in a meeting, front desk quiet for a moment.

We built Ansela because we kept ringing tradespeople who couldn’t pick up, and then booking someone else. She isn’t a call centre. She answers in your name, says what you’ve told her to say, and writes down what the caller wanted.

If she gets a call wrong, forward us the recording.

08

How do you set up Ansela?

You choose a plan before your number goes live.

For mortgage brokers and independent financial advisers: keep your current number and divert it to Ansela, or take a new UK business number for your website and cards, or use both.

  • Give her your website and your wording. She reads your services and comes back with the questions she’ll ask. You supply any wording about your firm’s status and cut anything that sounds like advice.
  • Call her yourself. Try a caller who asks for a rate, one who asks if they would qualify, and one who just wants a call. Check she says only what you’d say.
  • Divert your mobile. We give you a UK number. One short code diverts your mobile to it when you don’t pick up. Another turns it off.

Questions mortgage brokers and independent financial advisers ask

Does she give mortgage advice or quote rates?

No. She gives no advice, no rates, no product comparison and no view on whether anyone would qualify. The adviser covers that on the call.

Can she say we are FCA authorised?

Only in wording you provide. Your firm’s FCA status and permissions are for you to state, and she says them exactly as you wrote them.

Do her recordings meet FCA record-keeping rules?

We don’t claim that. The recording and transcript are emailed to you as a convenience. What you must keep, and how, is for you and your compliance adviser.

Can she book appointments with the adviser?

Yes, initial calls, into her own diary on the slots you offer. She takes a name, number and the kind of enquiry.

Do I have to change my number?

No. We give you a UK number and you divert your own to it with a short code (codes by network). Turn the divert off whenever you like.

What is a minute, and can she take two calls at once?

A minute is time she spends on the phone with callers. Starter includes 600 a month, extra minutes are 20p each up to a limit you set, and Starter takes 1 call at a time. A caller who rings while she’s busy can leave a voicemail, which doesn’t use your minutes.

Is there a contract, and what happens after the £1.99 month?

No minimum term. After the first month it carries on at your plan price plus VAT unless you cancel, which you can do from your billing page at any time.

When the adviser is with a client, let her book the call.
