Is there an AI receptionist for podiatrists and audiologists?
Yes. Ansela answers your clinic’s phone in your clinic’s name while you’re with a patient. She gives your fees, access and parking details from what you’ve told her, books routine appointments into her Ansela diary and takes messages. She gives no clinical advice. Plans start at £99 a month + VAT.

The daughter booking for her mum
This is the kind of call a foot clinic gets mid-morning. The daughter mentions diabetes, swaps Friday for Thursday, and Anita has it all before Margaret arrives.
Example call; Westgate Foot Clinic and the caller are made up.
This call may be recorded. Thank you for calling Westgate Foot Clinic. Please hold for a moment while I connect you.Recorded, and played before she picks up.
Westgate Foot Clinic, Ansela speaking. How can I help?
Hello, yes, it’s for my mum, she needs her nails doing. She’s eighty-two. She used to go to the chap on the high street but he’s retired.
Of course. A routine appointment is forty pounds. Can I take your mum’s name?
Margaret Doyle. D-O-Y-L-E. Oh, and she’s diabetic, does that matter?
I’ll put that in the note for Anita, and she’ll go through it at the appointment. Does your mum need the ground-floor room?
Yes, she can’t do stairs. And she’ll need a parking space near the door.
The ground-floor room has a space right outside. Anita has Thursday at eleven or Friday at two.
Friday. No, Thursday, I’m at work Friday and I’m bringing her.
Thursday at eleven, ground floor. Is this the best number for you, and your name?
Yes. Siobhan. Siobhan Doyle.

What she does for a clinic, and what she won’t
She works from your fees, your appointment types, your access and parking details, and the days you do home visits.
- Routine appointments and new patients, booked into your diary or passed to you.
- Fees, the ground-floor room and parking, answered from what you’ve given her.
- A son or daughter ringing for a parent, noted as who rang and who the patient is.
- Home visits, booked on the days and in the areas you cover, with the address.
- Won’t give advice about feet, hearing or a device. She books the appointment or takes a message.
- Won’t judge how urgent something is. You tell her what to say and when to suggest NHS 111 or 999.
- Won’t book into your practice software. She books into your Ansela diary or passes the details to you.
03
What happens when a podiatrist misses a call?
A foot clinic often runs back to back, with the desk phone ringing in the middle of a nail-care appointment or a hearing test. A lot of callers are older, or a son or daughter ringing for a parent. They are not always comfortable leaving a message, and many simply try again later or ring another clinic.
Someone with a long wait behind them wants an answer from a person who sounds unhurried, not a ringing line.
04
What does she ask when someone rings a foot clinic or a hearing clinic?
The name of the patient, and who is ringing if that’s someone else. Then the type of appointment, from the list you’ve set: routine nail care, a new patient assessment, a hearing test, a hearing aid check. She asks whether the patient needs a ground-floor room or a parking space, because access is often the first thing a family asks about.
If you do home visits, she asks for the full address and anything about getting in, on the days and in the areas you’ve told her you cover.
05
What if the caller mentions a health condition?
She writes it in the note and doesn’t comment on it. If someone says the patient has diabetes, or a hearing problem that came on suddenly, she says you’ll go through it at the appointment. She doesn’t say whether it matters, and she doesn’t suggest what to do.
You can set a rule for urgent wording, such as pointing a caller to NHS 111 or 999 and putting the call through to your mobile. The words are yours. Podiatrists and hearing aid dispensers are regulated by the HCPC. Whether you mention that registration to callers is up to you, so if you want it said, give her the words.
06
Does she book into my practice software?
No. She books into her own Ansela diary, which you can see and change from your phone. If your clinic keeps its main diary in other software, she takes the details and you or your admin enter them. Her diary and a second system means checking both before you confirm a slot yourself.
Plans start at £99 a month + VAT: see what each plan includes. Paying a per-call service now? See how Ansela compares.

Where the phone usually is while you’re with the eleven o’clock
We built Ansela because we kept ringing tradespeople who couldn’t pick up, and then booking someone else. She isn’t a call centre. She answers in your name, says what you’ve told her to say, and writes down what the caller wanted.
If she gets a call wrong, forward us the recording.

How do you set up Ansela?
You choose a plan before your number goes live.
For podiatrists and hearing-aid audiologists: keep your current number and divert it to Ansela, or take a new UK business number for your website and cards, or use both.
- Give her your website. She reads it and comes back with your fees, appointment types and access details for you to check.
- Pick a voice and try her. Have the call above with her yourself in your browser before she takes a real one. Ring as the daughter and ask whether diabetes matters.
- Divert your mobile. We give you a UK number. One short code diverts your mobile to it when you don’t pick up. Another turns it off.
Where callers’ details are kept
Recordings, transcripts and your diary are stored in the UK on Microsoft Azure (UK South), with each company walled off from the others. Recordings and transcripts are deleted after 90 days unless you ask us for a different period.
Some processing happens outside the UK: the AI models run on Microsoft’s service in Sweden, and the phone carrier (Twilio) and the speech service (ElevenLabs) are in the US. For your callers’ data you’re the controller and we’re your processor. Our data processing terms list every supplier, where it is and the safeguards that apply.
Ansela isn’t built to collect health details. Callers sometimes mention them, so don’t set her up to ask for them unless you have a lawful reason to.

Questions podiatrists and hearing-aid audiologists ask
A lot of our patients are older. How does she do?
Try her yourself before she takes a real call. Read the transcripts to check.
Can relatives book for someone?
Yes. She takes the patient’s name and the caller’s number, and notes who rang.
We do home visits. Can she book those?
Yes. Tell her the days and areas, and she takes the full address and anything about access.
Will she tell callers whether a foot or hearing problem is serious?
No. She gives no clinical advice. She notes what the caller says, books the appointment or takes a message, and you decide what happens next.
Do I have to change my number?
No. We give you a UK number and you divert your own to it with a short code (codes by network). Turn the divert off whenever you like.
What is a minute, and can she take two calls at once?
A minute is time she spends on the phone with callers. Starter includes 600 a month, extra minutes are 20p each up to a limit you set, and Starter takes 1 call at a time. A caller who rings while she’s busy can leave a voicemail, which doesn’t use your minutes.
Is there a contract, and what happens after the £1.99 month?
No minimum term. After the first month it carries on at your plan price plus VAT unless you cancel, which you can do from your billing page at any time.
Stay with the patient in the chair. She’ll take the next call.
